A true story if you will.
Some years ago, a few days after I moved into my new apartment, I was waiting for a city bus at the top of a steep hill. As I sat on the bench waiting, I looked around, and my eyes happened upon something I immediately found to be truly awesome. There was a crack on the sidewalk near the bench I was sitting on. The crack measured about two inches long and a single millimeter wide. From that miniscule crack, grew a tiny stem with 3 petite leaves. Amongst all that cement on the sidewalk and pavement of the street beside it, areas that had been bulldozed, then covered with completely un-natural substances, grew this tiny tender life. The POWER OF LIFE. And my life hasn’t been the same since.
How did this tiny stem with three little leaves growing from a crack in the sidewalk change me?
First, let me tell you that the three leaf stem is no longer there in that crack in the sidewalk. It has been trampled upon again and again, unnoticed by the people who walked upon it. I still look for a little stem to be growing in that crack every time I pass by.
As for how that three leafed stem changed me, well ….. From the moment I saw that little stem, I understood, without a doubt, how life is the highest value and greatest power. And later on, as I passed by and did NOT see the little stem growing from the crack, I realized how time and again “little things” "LIFE things, are, in essence, of great magnitude, yet far too often ignored. Many may think insignificant this little stem with three tiny leaves. This little stem is a symbol. A symbol of life. Life is the true focus of the world. Whether life be human, nature, or animal, that life is significant.

Tender Art is not an official art style.
There are artists who REALLY DO create art which is tender. They may not refer to their style as Tender Art. TENDER ART indicates life in a calm way. NOT shocking art, not necessarily sensational art. In this hectic world, one does not often have time to notice the gentleness around her/him.
Thus, the purpose of Tender Art. To remind others that there still is some calm and peace, gentleness and serenity in this world we all share. And beyond the tender art, may viewers find a tender scene within her/his entourage that inspires her/him. Whether it be a mid summer sunrise, a mother rocking her infant; the first spring flower growing beyond the winter’s last patches of snow; a parent/parents walking hand in hand with their very small child; a few squirrels having bits of bread in the park at noon; a couple on a quiet beach watching a glorious sunset; colorful leaves falling in autumn; a stranger extending a smile to an elder sitting on a bench; a lone cardinal perched on a branch of a pine tree that is half covered with snow; a little boy hugging his beloved dog; yes, even a tiny stem with three miniature leaves growing in the most unlikely place; and infinitely more scenarios; these are tender moments that can be portrayed in art, in any medium and style.
